2.1.3 Can. The body sides shall be corrugated. The bottom and top rims shall be reinforces with a steel band trip or be integral with a rolled edge or by any other commercial manufacturing method that will provide rigidity. The cans shall taper sufficiently to allow nesting.
2.1.4 Cover. The top and sides shall be reinforced for rigidity. The edges of the cover shall be rolled to prevent a safety hazard. The style of the cover shall be specified in the contract or order.
2.1.5 Attachments. All clips, handles, and bails on the cans shall be diametrically positioned and securely attached. The drop-type handles shall incorporate a 70 degrees limited upward movement. The movement is measured with the can in the upright position.
2.1.6 Zinc Coating. Shall be hot-dipped galvanized in accordance with ASTM A123 or electrodeposited in accordance with ASTM A525. When pre-galvanized sheets are used, the seams and edges of the finished can shall be coated with seaming compound.
2.1.7 Dimensions. The dimensions of the cans and covers shall be as specified herein or as specified in the contract or order.
2.2 Workmanship. The cans and covers shall be clean, rigid, free from cracks, sharp edges and rust. The finish shall be free from lumps, blisters, grit, uncoated areas, dross, flux, black or acid spots, and flaking. The welds shall be complete, unfused, unbroken, not burned through, and free from splatter, flash, pits, flux, and scale. There shall not be any missing attaching hardware. All rivets shall all be properly set, peened and equally spaced. The cans shall not have any defects that affect fit, form, function, appearance or safety.
2.3 Measurement system. The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The metric values stated in parentheses are for information purposes only.
2.4 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered or an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerances specified and all other requirements of this document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
2.5 Commercial Item. The use of the term “commercial item” in this document does not imply that any item or items offered are not required to conform with all requirements specified herein.
