COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

PAIL, 5 GALLON, WITH REMOVABLE BAIL AND SNAP-ON LID

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID) for all federal agencies.

1.            SCOPE.

1.1          Scope.  This commercial item description covers 5-gallon pails for refuse.

2.            SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

2.1          Color.    The color of the pail shall be white or gray.

2.2          Capacity. The capacity shall be 5 gallons + 2 quartz (18.9 + 1.9 liters).

2.3          Shape.  The pail shall be round in shape and shall be tapered for nesting. The bottom diameter shall be 10.5 + 1 inch (266.7 + 25.4 mm), the top diameter shall be 11.5 + 1 inch (292.1 + 25.4 mm), and the height (without lid and place) shall be 15 + 1 inch (381 + 25.4 mm).

2.4          Material. The pail shall be constructed of high density polyethylene (HDPE).

2.5          Bail.        The bail shall be constructed of corrosion resistant metal and shall be removable and diametrically attached. The bail shall have at the top center a plastic sleeve with a minimum length of 3-1/4 inches (82.6 mm)

2.6          Bail ears. The bail ears shall be diametrically positioned and molded into the rim.

2.7          Lid.         The lid shall be snug fitting and shall be of the snap-on type.

2.8          Measurement system.  The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The metric values stated in parenthesis are for informational purposes only.

2.9          Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerances specified and all other requirements of this document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
