COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAIL, UTILITY, METAL, GALVANIZED, (ZINC COATED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification RR-P-35.
This commercial item description covers galvanized, metal, utility pails, 10, 12, and 14 quart size as specified.
Salient characteristics:
(A) Tape: I, lightweight, 10 and 12 quart, .0097 inch minimum, uncoated sheet.
II, heavy weight, 14 quart, .0239 inch minimum, uncoated sheet.
(B) Material Steel:
1. Pail body. Galvanized sheet or uncoated sheet. When galvanized sheets are used, the seams and edges shall be coated with seaming compound, in conformance with applicable requirements stipulated by the Food and Drug Administration, Code of Federal Regulations, (CFR) Title 21, for use from -40oF to + 212oF.
2. Bail. Galvanized wire.
(C) Construction:
1. Pail body-
a. body sides- one or two piece construction, tapered.
b. bottom- one piece, type II shall be reinforced for rigidity.
c. top and bottom rim- reinforced for rigidity.
d. watertight.
e. bail attachment-ears or galvanized top beading wire formed to serve as ears, diametrically positioned.
f. nestable.
2. Bail.
a. rotate freely,
b. formed to attach to ears or top beading wire to prevent it from becoming detached.
(D) Finish. All component uncoated steel parts shall be cleaned free of grit, loose scale, and rust and then hot-dip galvanized a minimum of 2 ounces per square foot both surfaces, after fabrication.
(E) Workmanship. Clean, rigid and free from cracks, sharp edges, and rust.
a. Finish. Free from lumps, blisters, grit, uncoated areas, dross, flux, black or acid spots, and flaking.
b. Welds. None missing, unfused, broken, burned through and free from splatter, flash and scale.
c. Rivets. None missing, and all properly set, peened and equally spaced.
The issue of the CFR in effect on the date of solicitation for bids shall be used to determine compliance with the stated requirements.
