COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CAN, RADIATOR FILLING AND CAN SPRINKLING; PLASTIC
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to MIL-C-43522.
1. CLASSIFICATION
1.1 Classification. This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the requirements for plastic water cans (see 5.2).
Type I- 12 quart with spout
Type II- 12 quart with sprinkling head
1.2 CID based part identification number (PIN). A document based PIN to identify type numbers is included in section 5. This identification numbering procedure is for Government purposes and does not constitute a requirement for the contractor.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. Both type water cans shall be capable of containing 12 quarts of water and shall show no evidence of leakage. The water cans shall be made of polyethylene conforming to type I or II, class A or B, of ASTM D 1248. Items made by rotational molding shall be made of virgin material only. Clean, unburned plastic material in the form of imperfect parts, runners or other scrap of the same composition may be reground and mixed with the virgin material for injection molding, with a maximum of 50% reground. The cans shall have a pouring spout long and high enough so that no spillage occurs. The water cans shall be sufficiently rigid so that there shall be no perceptible distortion when filled to capacity. When
