COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CAN, FLAMMABLE WASTE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of
this commercial item description in preference to Federal
Specification RR-C-114, Types I and II.
This commercial item description covers flammable waste cans for safe, temporary storage of oily waste, rags, and other similar combustible materials inside buildings.
Salient characteristics:
Type I – Foot operated, 6 or 10 gallon nominal, size as specified
Type II – Hand operated, 22 gallon nominal.
The waste cans shall meet the requirements of UL standard No. 32
The issue of UL Standard No. 32 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Finish. Exterior surfaces of the cans shall be painted with red solvent – resistant enamel.
Workmanship. The cans shall be clean, rigid, and free form cracks, sharp edges, rust, loose components, or other defects which might affect serviceability. Finish shall be free from lumps, blisters, grit, uncoated areas, flaking, dross, flux, black or acid spots. Welds, soldering, brazing – none missing, unfused, broken, burned through , and free from splatter, flash, pits, flux, and scale. Rivets – none missing and all properly set, peened and equally spaced.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered material to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
