COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

OPENER-DISPENSER CAN

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description

This commercial item description covers can spouts for dispensing oil and other liquid petroleum products.

Salient characteristics:

(1) Capacity- for 1 and 5 quart cans

(2) Material

(a) Opener dispenser- steel

(b) Gasket- neoprene or vinyl

(3) Construction

(a) Blade- sharp, long-wearing, and capable of cutting plastic, fibre, tin plate, or aluminum cans.

(b) Spout- minimum, 75 inch inside diameter at the dispensing end and a minimum of 8.5 inches long.

(4) Finish- nickel or nickel-chrome plated

(5) Workmanship- clean, rigid, and free from cracks, sharp-edges and rust

(a) Finish- free from lumps, blisters, grit, uncoated areas, dross, flux, black acid spots flaking

(b) welds, brazing, soldering-none missing, unfused, broken, burned through and free from splatter, flash, pits, flux, and scale.

Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.

Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.

Packaging, packing, and marking. The item shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
