COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAIL, UTILITY, METAL, ENAMEL, WITH LID AN BAIL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers metal, enameled pails for general purpose use.
Salient characteristics:
Capacity - 10 or 12 quart, size as specified.
Material
- pail and lid - steel
- bail - galvanized wire
- bail sleeve - wood or plastic
Construction - Pail - one piece, tapered, nestable, top rim reinforced for rigidity, watertight,
Bail ears welded, diametrically attached, or top beading wire formed with provisions to diametrically attach the bail.
Bail - attached permanently to ears or formed top beading wire and free to rotate
Bail sleeve - located top center of the bail
Lid - one
Finish - pail and lid - porcelain enamel
- bail wire - galvanized
- bail sleeve piece with handle - protective finish for wood
Performance - no leaking when filled to the rim with water
Workmanship -
Pail and Lid - clean, rigid, and free from cracks, sharp edges, dents, rust; no deformed bail and bail sleeve; the lid to fit the pail securely and shall not interfere with free movement of the bail.
Finish - smooth and free from lumps, blisters, grit, uncoated areas, dross, black or acid spots, flaking.
Welds - none missing, unfused, broken, burned through, and free from dross, splatter, flash, pits, flux and scale.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, Packing and Marking. The packaging and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification.
Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
