COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

WASTE RECEPTACLE, WALL OR POST MOUNTED

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in lieu of Federal Specification RR-W-1588.

Salient characteristics:

(1)          Capacity – 20-gallons minimum.

(2)          Shape – rectangular with rounded corners.

(3)          Material – Carbon steel, 20 gage minimum.

(4)          Color – as specified.

(5)          Surface finish – smooth painted enamel.

(6)          Construction:

 (a)         Welded.

 (b)         Full front door or lower base door for emptying, hinged.

 (c)          Push-in upper door, hinged with a return mechanism to keep the door closed,                                                  for litter deposit with the word “DEPOSIT LITTER”, in black on the door.

 (d)         Locking – tumbler type or hasp and latch for padlock to lock emptying door.

 (e)         Recessed back for full height of the receptacle for pole mounting.

 (f)          Pole mounting straps to attach to a pole for a minimum of 14 inch diameter.

Workmanship:  No sharp edges, smooth welded edges, free swinging doors, no runs or unevenly coated areas.

Certification.      The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawing, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.

Recovered Materials.     The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.

Packaging, packing and marking.               Each receptacle shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed in fiberboard boxes that will assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
